Too much, the bow hemp does not like that at all. As a minimalist, he is a real trendsetter because the modern principle applies to him: less is more. You create the best environment for the arch hemp, regardless of the species, by making it inhospitable: little water, little fertilizer, lots of sun. However, the scalloped plant has nothing against a little summer freshness outdoors in a sunny and dry place.

Water bow hemp

The topic of watering is relaxed with bow hemp. From its home in the semi-deserts and dry savannahs of Africa and Asia, it is used to longer dry periods. This has the advantage that he doesn't take it amiss if you forget him. As a rule, you can water the plant about every two weeks, but please not too liberally. Let the soil dry out well before the next watering. In winter, when the plant has less light, you should also give the plant less water. At this time of year, you can only water once a month without a guilty conscience. The amount of water can also be reduced.

tip: It is important when watering that there is no water in the rosettes of the plant, as this could lead to rot.

Fertilize bow hemp

Too much fertilizer will do more harm than good to the bow tie. He prefers it low in nutrients. If the plant has just been repotted in new substrate, it will not need fertilizer again until next year. Commercially available liquid fertilizer for cacti, which you can add to the irrigation water, is best suited. Also our Plantura Organic room and green plant fertilizer is a good choice for the arch hemp. However, it is sufficient if you use only half as much as indicated on the packaging. In general, you should only fertilize during the summer months, i.e. in the period from mid-March to the end of August.

Repot bow hemp

Due to the slow growth, the arch hemp only needs to be repotted every few years. But if its strong roots want more space, then they can certainly burst their pot. In this case, the signal is clear: the arched hemp wants to be repotted. It is best to do this in early spring, before the plant starts the new season. When choosing a pot, make sure there is a drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. To improve the drainage effect, you can put some potsherds in the bottom of the pot. Put a little of the substrate mixture on top of that before you put the plant in the pot. Now all you have to do is fill the pot with substrate, press the soil down lightly and water the plant a little.

Maintaining bow hemp: the right soil

Bow hemp naturally thrives on sandy and dry soils that are low in nutrients. Simple cactus soil is therefore suitable as a substrate. Or you mix sand and Organic universal soil in equal parts with each other. The main thing is that the substrate is not too rich in nutrients and is well drained. Bow hemp prefers a pH in the neutral or slightly acidic range, i.e. between 6.0 and 7.0.
