Is gorse dangerous for cats?
Broom is harmful to cats because it contains toxic alkaloids that become effective when they come in contact with saliva. Typical symptoms of poisoning in cats are increased salivation, nausea, agitation, paralysis and cardiovascular problems.
Can gorse harm cats?
Yes, because gorse contains so-called alkaloids. These organic compounds are for cats as well as for other animals poisonous. As soon as the alkaloids come into contact with saliva, the poison unfolds its effect. This means: cats should not lick or chew broom and certainly should not swallow any parts of the plant.

Small digression: the genets
Genets, also known as genets, are a genus of civets. They are mainly found in Africa. The cats are characterized by an elongated body with short limbs, a pointed muzzle, large round ears as well as a beige to gray colored coat with a conspicuous black spotted pattern and a ringed tail marked. With the Gorse as a plant however, the naming is not related.
