How many types of brood leaf are there?

About 30 species of the breeding leaf are known. Some make good houseplant, while others grow so large that they are more suitable for botanical gardens. This includes, for example, the Kalanchoe tomentosea with its oval, fleshy and silvery hairy leaves. The Kalanchoe beharensis with pointed triangular leaves can also grow meters high. The Kalanchoe crenate shows only a few brood buds. Their leaves are rounded.

Which types of breeding leaf are suitable as a houseplant?

As a rule, there are mainly two types of breeding leaf in the living room or in the office, namely the types "Kalanchoe tubiflora" and "Kalanchoe daigremonatium". They are sturdy and easy-care like all brood leaves. The Kalanchoe laetivirens or Bryophyllum laetivirens is also ideal as a houseplant. The two names Kalanchoe and Bryophyllum are used for the breeding leaf, it is the same plant.

Do the different species require different care?

Visually, the different types of breeding leaf differ considerably from one another, but not in terms of care. Most species grow with an erect stem, but some grow climbing or as a creeper. These succulents are rarely shrubs or sub-shrubs. They need a lot of light for strong growth and do not tolerate waterlogging.

Propagate the brood leaf

In principle, you have to take care of that Multiplication Don't worry about your breeding leaf, it works all by itself. The breeding leaf develops small daughter plants on the leaf margins or tips. These plants fall off when they are adequately rooted. If they land on soil or substrate, they grow on, but they dry up on the windowsill.

The essentials in brief:

  • approx. 30 different types with different looks
  • as houseplant mainly 2 types: Kalanchoe tubiflora and Kalanchoe daigremonatium
  • Propagation "child's play"
  • very easy to care for

Tips

All breeding leaves have similar requirements in terms of location and care. If you have different species, they do not require any special care.
