Offer nesting boxes and nesting sites

Many Bumblebee species build their nests in holes in the ground, for example in abandoned mouse holes. Stone cracks or the crevices under the pile of wood are also often populated.

In addition, you can use a nesting box(€ 8.99 at Amazon *) for Bumblebees set up, which you can get ready-made from retailers or make yourself. The Hummelheim should have the following properties:

  • You have the choice between aboveground and underground bumblebee houses.
  • Buried houses must be constructed in such a way that no water can run into them.
  • In aboveground dwellings it must not get too warm.
  • The offered home must have a bumblebee hatch and protected ventilation holes. This prevents wax moths from nesting, which would destroy the whole nest.
  • Underground bumblebee houses must have a sufficiently long tube as an entrance.

Put the bumblebee house in the right place

Regarding the location where the new state will settle, bumblebees are a little bit demanding. It is important to have a good supply of food that is close to the Bumblebee nest finds. Bees and bumblebees friendly plants should be found in abundance.

  • For an underground nest, choose a quiet spot in a corner of the garden. Even in heavy rain, there should be no waterlogging here.
  • Bury the dwelling and lay the pipes so that the bumblebee queen can crawl in easily.
  • Drape moss and stones around the entrance so that the animals can recognize the hole.
