Summer time - fruits and seeds ripen

While the Snow Forsythia keeps in the background in summer and is hardly noticeable, it secretly develops its nut fruits. These are small, rounded, broadly winged and brown in color. That makes them less than spectacular. Yet they will for that sowing second hand. If you want to grow the snow forsythia from seeds, you can collect the seeds of the nuts in June / July.

Ideal time to multiply

It's not just about sowing in summer. The snow forsythia can also be propagated by means of sinking or cuttings. This is how you proceed with the propagation of cuttings:

  • from June to September
  • Cut off 10 to 15 cm long shoots (e.g. B. in the course of a cut back)
  • remove lower leaves
  • in pots with Potting soil put
  • keep moist and if necessary cover

At temperatures between 20 and 25 ° C (room temperature), the cuttings usually root quickly. It is best if you place the cuttings in a shady, but warm place until the roots are covered, e.g. in a garden. B. in the living room or on the balcony. They are only planted in the spring of the following year.

Improve the growth pattern - cut snow forsythia

The snow forsythia looks densely branched to sparsely, partly overhanging and rather inconspicuous in summer. If they don't like you as they are, now is the right time to cut back or shape them. You should never make the cut in autumn! Otherwise, cut off the new flower buds.

Don't forget to fertilize and water!

In summer, the snow forsythia needs a lot of water. When there is no rain, drought and heat prevail, you should therefore provide your snow forsythia with water. You can also use the plant fertilize. Both watering and fertilizing are important in order for lots of flower buds to form.

Tips

If you want to grow the snow forest from seeds, you should use the fresh seeds in summer. They are best able to germinate!
