Possible causes

Change of location

Brown tips on indoor plants occur mainly in the winter months. The change of location required for wintering is to blame. While one or the other plant enjoys fresh air and warm rays of sun in summer, it suffers from heated rooms and increasing darkness in winter. Above all, exotic plants then show the symptoms mentioned.
To increase the humidity, you should

  • spray the plant regularly
  • set up an indoor fountain
  • cover small plants with foil
  • place a bowl of water next to the plant

Tips

Put a few drops of lavender oil in the bowl of water. The essential aromas keep pests away.

frost

Indoor plants can also suffer frost damage. Just 10 minutes of cold drafts are enough to add warmth-loving plants. Especially in winter, make sure that your indoor plants are not in the air flow when airing.

Lack of water

Brown tips can also be a sign of a lack of water. The thumb test will help you determine when it is time for the next watering. To do this, press lightly into the substrate with your thumb. Does the earth feel dry? Then you should give water to the houseplant. If the top layer of substrate is not yet dry, you should wait to prevent waterlogging.

When a houseplant needs water depends entirely on the species and location. In bright locations, the water evaporates faster, which is why the need for water increases.

Tips

If the brown tips are the result of a lack of water, you should still not overwater the plant. Just start feeding the crop in sufficient quantities. Soon the houseplant will recover on its own.

Iron deficiency

Iron deficiency is another reason for brown tips. On the one hand, it is possible that the substrate is too low in nutrients anyway. On the other hand, it can also be too calcareous. Lime inhibits the iron absorption of the roots.
If you do not correct the cause, the houseplant can develop chlorosis. These measures help against iron deficiency:

  • use captured rainwater for watering
  • use special iron fertilizer
  • Renew the substrate

Note: That too Over-fertilization can lead to brown tips on the houseplant.
