Vigorous pruning in spring

The 'Rose de Resht' is one of the few more frequently blooming roses among the historical roses - these are usually only blooming once. Instead, this rose variety beguiles with its strong fuchsia pink flowers and its intense fragrance from the end of May to September. Like all more frequently blooming shrub roses, the 'Rose de Resht' mainly blooms on the young shoots, so that regular pruning in spring is essential. This should be done between the end of March and the beginning of April on a mild, frost-free day.

  • First remove sick, dead wood and wood that is too dense.
  • Old, blooming shoots are cut back by at least two thirds.
  • You only cut back strong shoots by a third.
  • Side shoots are shortened to five eyes.
  • These measures ensure that the 'Rose de Resht' sprouts again and branches out vigorously.
  • You should also completely remove one or two old shoots every year.
  • This is used to rejuvenate the plant over and over again.

You can also shorten the 'Rose de Resht' considerably. This rose variety is not only very vigorous, but also very pruning.

This not only ensures that the 'Rose de Resht' is continually stimulated to form new flowers, but also helps keep the rose healthy. Unfortunately, that which has withered also serves as a gateway for numerous pathogens and weakens the plant, so regular cleaning is very useful.

Tips

If trimmed accordingly, the vigorous 'Rose de Resht' can become very high (up to 180 centimeters) and also very wide. In addition, it grows very compact and dense, which is why it is also ideal for planting hedges.
