Poisonous plant parts

The striking color of the fruits makes them particularly attractive to children. You do not notice the toxicity, because the fruits taste very sweet.

Critical dose
If large quantities of fruits, flowers or leaves are eaten, various symptoms can occur. 30 to 40 seeds are considered a critical dose in adults, which can lead to death. Severe symptoms of intoxication develop in children after consuming 15 seeds. 20 seeds can cause death.
However, skin contact is not dangerous. If a child gathers fruit and later licks his fingers, you do not need to fear any danger. In the case of pets, consumption of even small amounts of plant parts can be fatal.
Symptoms of intoxication
It can take up to 18 hours for symptoms to appear. The initial signs are shortness of breath and an increase in body temperature. Circulatory problems and palpitations occur. This is followed by abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea. Repeated vomiting or constipation may occur. The toxic ingredients damage the liver and kidneys. Paralysis of the heart muscle and nervous system can lead to death.
