Winterize hemp palm in the garden

The longer one Hemp palm grows in the garden, the more robust it is. Temperatures down to -18 degrees are no problem. On the leaves you can Frost damage show without the palm suffering from it.

More than the cold, the hemp palm in the garden creates moisture in winter. This is why you should winterize hemp palms by including the plants Garden fleece or wrap sackcloth and lay a thick layer of mulch around the palm made of leaves, brushwood and fir branches.

In the bucket The hemp palm tolerates temperatures down to -6 degrees. If it doesn't get colder, you can overwinter the palm on the terrace.

At lower temperatures, however, you should bring the hemp palm into the house. Find a place that is light and not too warm. It shouldn't be warmer than about ten degrees at the winter location. Avoid sudden changes in temperature. The hemp palm would not do well directly from the cold into a warm room.

Hemp palms that you grow as houseplant will keep you cooler over winter and water less. The location has to be very bright.

Tips

Young hemp palms are not yet hardy. They may only be planted outside in the garden when they are at least three or four years old. In the first year they need particularly good winter protection.
