When it comes to swimming pond maintenance, when it comes to the turbidity in the natural pool, many think primarily of replacing the water. However, you can save the time and the not inconsiderable costs of a change because nature will regulate itself if it is given just a little time for it. Care is more about removing impurities in the pool, depending on the size and location of the pond. It is particularly about the sludge that accumulates on the pool floor and about the continuous care of the plants.

Protect pond plants from overgrowth

The shallow water and swamp areas require special attention, because the pronounced roots of the various species mutate into voluminous nests. Huge amounts of suspended matter can accumulate at these points, which in turn has a negative effect on the biological balance of the pond fauna. A well-thought-out thinning provides a remedy here, whereby special attention is paid to:

  • Cattail,
  • different types of grass as well
  • Reeds with deeply rooted braids

to be judged. Especially with foil ponds, it is not allowed to proceed too boldly and certainly not with sharp tools, such as Chopping must be worked, as considerable water losses can occur very quickly through leaks in the film can.

Exceptional case: gravel on the pool floor

Unfortunately, when building a new pool, it happens again and again that gravel is brought into the bottom of swimming ponds, which makes maintaining the pool extremely difficult. After a few months, large amounts of sediment form between the stones, which even a powerful sludge vacuum cleaner can only remove superficially. As a result, putrefaction occurs, which in turn accelerates the formation of algae. The only alternative: Remove the gravel entirely, which, however, makes it necessary to pump out the entire amount of water.

Maintenance effort for the natural pool

Low, because natural, but it is not entirely without care and the regular removal of thread algae and leaves helps enormously so that a swimming pond works perfectly. With the algae and leaf nets available in stores, swimming pond maintenance is a matter of a few hours, depending on the size of the pool. In the first few years, the Pond liner clean with the help of simple mud vacuum cleaners. For older ponds, it is advisable to use professional equipment that can be borrowed from specialist retailers.

Tips

A lot of work can be saved if regular attention is paid to plant debris floating around in the water when maintaining the swimming pond. It is best to fish this out of the tank with a wooden or plastic rake, which has a significantly greater reach with a telescopic rod, if possible several times a week.
