  • planted too deep
  • too shady Location
  • persistent drought / heat
  • Nutritional deficiency
  • Disease infestation (mainly through gray mold - brown, dried up buds)

Shoot buds that do not open

If the buds of the peonies do not open, in most cases there is a specific cause behind it. Usually it is because the Peony too deep planted became.

Perennial peonies should be planted with their buds, which are located directly on the root area, a maximum of 5 cm below the surface of the earth. A planting depth of 2 to 3 cm is better.

Tips

A thick layer of mulch, for example as part of winter protection, can also be the cause of shoot buds not opening. Remove the winter protection no later than mid-March so as not to hinder the budding!
