First remove wild growth mechanically

If weeds have already settled, you should cut them back and then pull out the roots. If possible, dig up the earth under the fence with a digging fork, because this way the roots can be read out easily. It pays to be very careful with this work, as many weed plants grow back from the smallest remains of roots.
