The flower trade has picked up on this trend and offers waxed flower bulbs. At a high price, however. However, since growing the bulbs is not a difficult task, anyone can make their own at home. The good thing is that you can implement your own ideas here.

Suitable bulbs

Thick flower bulbs store plenty of nutrients and water. They are therefore ideally suited for waxing. The largest bulbs among the spring bloomers are the hyacinths and the amaryllis family. But smaller specimens can also be dipped in wax.

Tips

Since the amaryllis sprouts high and forms a large, heavy flower, it can easily tip over and break off on its own. Place the waxed flower bulb in a tall glass jar or in such a way that it can hold on to something.

Suitable wax

The flower bulb doesn't care what wax it is coated with.

  • the focus may only be on the decorative value
  • z. B. delicate pastel tones harmonize wonderfully with hyacinths
  • a cheap candle may be used
  • or a candle that is currently available

Since the wax has to be melted, even old candle scraps can be used. Different candles can also be mixed together, as long as the new tone pleases. Only the wicks need to be removed beforehand.

instructions

  1. Take the flower bulb out of the pot and remove any debris from it.
  2. Soak the flower bulbs in water overnight. It should be completely covered, but not its green - if it has already sprouted something.
  3. Take the bulbs out of the water and let them dry off.
  4. Melt the wax in a water bath. Clean glasses with a wide opening are ideal for this.
  5. Take the glass out of the water bath as soon as the wax has liquefied. It shouldn't get too hot to avoid damaging the onion.
  6. Dip the entire flower bulb (without the green) into the wax. Only the place where it will drive out has to remain free.
  7. Let the wax layer dry and repeat the process until you are satisfied with the result.

Note:
After growing, you can neither water nor water the bulbs fertilize. That is also not necessary. You can immediately move on to admiring.
