How do you water Epiphyllum anguliger correctly?

In the spring, increase the watering quantities slowly. During the warm season, the Epiphyllum needs a lot of water, but does not tolerate waterlogging.

Use rainwater whenever possible, as calcareous water is harmful to the leaf cactus.

What should be considered when fertilizing?

Fertilize Never use Epiphyllum anguliger with cactus fertilizer! This species of cactus needs different nutrients. Use a normal one Flower fertilizer,(€ 9.36 at Amazon *) which you give every 14 days during the growing season. Reduce the amount of fertilizer to about half.

Are you allowed to prune Epiphyllum angular?

Cutting is not absolutely necessary. If the leaf cactus becomes too big for you, you are welcome to prune it back in spring. The cut shoots can be used as cuttings for the Multiplication to use.

When do you need to repot the leaf cactus?

Repotting is only necessary if the previous pot has become too small. The best time to move is early spring. Use a receptacle with a drain hole that you looser with Potting soil or fill a special substrate for leaf cacti.

Which diseases and pests are there?

Diseases occur with improper care. If the Epiphyllum is too wet, the roots will rot. When dry, the flowers fall off.

Watch out for pests like:

  • Scale insects
  • Spider mites
  • Mealybug

Whitish-green spots on the leaves indicate a fungal infection. The leaf cactus gets reddish spots when it is in a too cool location.

How do you hibernate Epiphyllum anguliger?

  • Cool, bright location
  • Temperatures between 15 and 18 degrees
  • never cooler than 10 degrees!
  • pour little
  • no longer fertilize

If you don't have a suitable place to Overwinter available, you can leave the Epiphyllum anguliger in the living room. It then has to be poured more often.

However, without a cooler rest period, it will not or only very little in the following year few flowers to develop.

Tips

Epiphyllum anguliger is also called "saw blade cactus". Its leaves are very serrated, making them a Saw blade look quite similar.
