This winter protection keeps frost at bay
If the godfather Frost knocks on the garden gate, the subject of winter protection comes into focus. For young people or those who are sensitive to frost Clematis these precautions should now be taken:

Foil covers are unsuitable for wintering clematis outside. Condensation forms under the winter sun, which sooner or later causes rot and mold.
It is better to carry clematis in the bucket to the winter quarters
Even hardy clematis species are in the exposed position of the planter frost delivered. In the worst case, the root ball is frozen through within a short time. It is an advantage if this winter quarters are available for the clematis:
- Cool but frost-free with temperatures between 0 and a maximum of 8 degrees Celsius
- Gladly an unheated staircase or the garage
If no accommodation is available for the winter, the clematis comes in bucket outside with the right protection through the cold season. Place the pot on an insulating surface made of wood or styrofoam. Wrap the bucket thickly in bubble wrap. The root area receives a layer of mulch made of leaves and straw. Cover the tendrils with a hood made of jute or garden fleece.
