Sow in autumn

The pasque flower is one of the cold germs and needs the coolest possible temperatures so that the seeds sprout. For this reason, the seeds are sown in late autumn, when it gets noticeably colder. Follow these steps:

  • Growing trays fill with good propagation substrate.
  • sowing Cover thinly with soil.
  • Moisten the substrate thoroughly with a sprayer.

Initiate cold germination

First place the seed containers in a warm place for about two weeks where the seeds can swell up a little. Then you spend the bowls in the garden so that the seeds are exposed to the cold stimuli necessary for germination.

Alternatively, you can simulate the conditions of the field in the refrigerator. Place the seed trays in the refrigerator for about two to eight weeks. How long the cold stimulus has to act depends somewhat on the seed. The pasque flower reacts to sums of temperature, which means that the seeds can only sprout when the combined negative temperature values are sufficient. It is therefore better to leave the bowls a little too long in the refrigerator than too short.

Care after germination

As soon as the temperatures rise, the small seedlings will begin to grow. Even now, the degrees of warmth must not be too high and should not exceed ten degrees plus. If the small plants compete for space after a while, they have to be isolated in order to continue to thrive vigorously.

When will it be put into the bed?

Even so, it is possible to separate the little pasque flowers directly into the bed, we recommend that you continue to plant the plants in the pot until early autumn maintain and only then to put them outdoors.

Propagation by rhizomes

If the pasque flower feels comfortable in its place, it reproduces vegetatively of its own accord. It forms long, underground roots that come out of the ground a little away from the mother plant and form small rosettes of leaves. A new pasque flower develops from these. As soon as the small cow puffs have grown a little, you can carefully separate them from the mother plant and move them to the desired place.
