The lucky bamboo or lucky bamboo

Lucky Bamboo is often given away as a lucky charm in a glass tube for Christmas or New Year's Eve. This is not a real bamboo, but a dragon tree.
It doesn't require a regular pruning, but it can get quite large if it is not trimmed. If there is not enough space, more frequent cuts should be made. As a rule, shortening the shoots is sufficient. The pruning measure can be used to get cuttings for new plants. The side shoots, which can be planted in soil after rooting in the water glass, are suitable for this.

Sometimes the Lucky bamboo discolored yellow. This indicates a rotting of the trunks. If not pruned, the plant dies. So the discolored part of the bamboo down to the healthy parts of the plant is cut off with a sharp knife. It is better to cut a little deeper into the healthy trunk and thus prevent the rot germs from spreading further.

Cut cuttings at the Lucky Bamboo

If the bamboo plant has developed side shoots, these can be used as cuttings.

  1. Cut the shoots close to the trunk.
  2. Put them in a glass of water until roots form.
  3. Change the water regularly.
  4. Once the roots have developed in abundance, prepare a plant pot with nutrient-rich soil.
  5. Plant the shoot in the ground. The plant usually grows well and produces plenty of side shoots.

Cut Pogonatherum paniceum

This "bamboo" plant is not a real bamboo, but a sweet grass. There is very little need to be cut here, as the grass grows into a beautiful bush on its own. Only the stalks that grow out of the mold can be cut off without any problems.

Real room bamboo

A pruning measure is often necessary here, as the bamboo can become quite large. A spring pruning is suitable, in which the plant is moderately shortened.
Depending on the species, a shape cut of the long shoots is also appropriate, for example to design the crown.
Cut branches or stems, as well as the root runners can be used for propagation. As described, you put them in water and wait for the roots to develop.
