The rose chafer

The beautiful, shiny metallic beetle belongs to the scarab beetles and is a protected species. Its larva is a beneficial organism that contributes to the formation of humus in the compost heap.
They are about one to two centimeters long and can be easily recognized by their greenish to golden, strongly shiny, thick body. Even when flying, its compact body cannot be overlooked, because it does not spread its iridescent wings, but rather pushes thin rear wings out from underneath.
Its thick, whitish larvae grow up to five centimeters in size. They live in the earth for a long time (about two years) without doing any harm to plants. The opposite is the case, as it contributes to the formation of humus in the compost heap and consumes dead plant material.
