Recipe suggestion for good lawn soil

Conventional Garden soil meets the requirements of Lawn seeds not so that they germinate quickly and take root. Similar to the recipe for a gourmet dish, the perfect turf soil depends on a balanced combination of different ingredients. The following composition has proven itself in practice:

  • 40-50% loamy garden soil
  • 30-35% compost soil
  • 15-20% quartz sand

Ideally, all ingredients are available in your own garden. Alternatively, you can purchase the components in hardware stores and garden centers. Gardeners have an advantage Compost soil Produce it yourself and make sure that the garden soil is healthy with vital soil life.

First seven - then distribute

Lawn seeds are finicky when it comes to the consistency of their base layer. If the self-made lawn soil is too coarse, many seeds refuse to germinate or take root very weakly. The result is a patchwork quilt instead of a velvety green lawn. You can prevent this nuisance by sifting ready-mixed lawn soil.

An earth sieve with a mesh size of 6 mm, a shovel and two buckets are required. Gradually shovel the ready-mixed lawn soil into the earth sieve. Take the sieve between both hands and shake it over one of the two buckets. Anything that does not fall through the mesh and cannot be crushed with your fingers, throw it into the second bucket.

It is undoubtedly a laborious endeavor to sift turf soil before distributing it on the ground. The reward for your efforts is an even, dense lawn, because the seeds find ideal conditions for germination and rooting.

Tips

When purchasing ready-made turf soil, environmentally conscious hobby gardeners ignore products with a peat content because they can no longer tolerate the overexploitation of irretrievable moorland. Renewable raw materials have long since proven to be the ideal substitute for peat, such as Coconut soil. Take a look at the composition and please give preference to peat-free lawn soil, such as Neudohum von Neudorff.
