Do the blossoms or the leaves come first on the apple tree?
The apple tree (Malus domestica) open the pink colored flower buds first. However, there is already a little foliage, because the flowers sit in protective, green sepals. During the flowering period, the tree then begins to sprout the leaves that nourish it.
Why does the apple tree blossom first?

Some apple varieties do not bloom regularly

For example, Boskop, Cox Orange or Elstar only bloom well every two years. In the year in which there is almost no flowering at all, these variants gather strength for the following year.
