In horticultural care work, most of the time pruning is done in order to achieve rich branching. That is not possible with the palm tree. Trachycarpus fortunei always drives new leaves out of their center. This is also called the palm heart. Its leaves are also evergreen and perennial, so they can stay on the plant. Cut yellow and brown leaves
Even with the best care can the leaves of the Chinese Hemp palm occasionally suffer from the given circumstances. Then they change their beautiful appearance, which bothers almost every owner.
- too much sun causes yellow spots

- too much or too little water is often to blame
- Leaves first turn yellow, then brown
- usually the outer leaves are affected first
- low humidity leads to brown leaf tips
- Wind kinks leaves that dry up over time

Disturbing leaves can be treated with a clean and sharp one Secateurs or saw remove. But wait until the leaf is completely brown and dried up. Leave a remnant of approx. Remain 5 cm on the trunk.
Tips
Cutting is only a "cosmetic" measure here. Also, remember to find out the cause and, if possible, eliminate it. Otherwise you will always be marked with yellow resp. brown leaves are struggling.
Cut the green leaves of the hemp palm
Green leaves are apparently healthy, and yet they sometimes need to be cut from the stem. The palm tree becomes larger and more spreading over the years. If your space does not offer more space, it must be limited in its volume. But don't cut off the entire sheet right away. Leave about 6 inches of it. Only when this residue has dried up, remove it to within 5 cm.
Note:
Cut as many green leaves as needed to make that growth the palm limit. But you should definitely leave the palm heart intact! If it is damaged, Trachycarpus fortunei can no longer sprout new palm fronds and eventually dies.
Cut the flower for more leaves
If you have a hemp palm in the garden plant out, it will likely bloom very often. But for the decorative blossom a price has to be paid. Since they and the subsequent seed formation cost a lot of energy, the "leaf production" is reduced. If a lot of leaf fronds are important to you, cut the bloom early.
