Leaf spot diseases can sometimes easily be mistaken for sunburn, but the triggers here are fungi of the genera Cercospora and Colletotrichum. In the event of an infestation, yellowish, reddish, brown or black spots appear on the leaves, often with a dark border. In the case of the mosaic virus, spots initially only appear on the underside of the leaf. Infested plants can hardly be saved.
